Each year Cypress Bay High School plays host to the BCAA Unsigned Sr. Showcase. Coach Looky(Head Coach at Cypress Bay) and company do  a tremendous job gathering all necessary information crucial for college coaches in the recruiting process.(Transcripts, SAT/ACT Scores..etc) The staff at BCAA not only make it accessible for small college coaches, but FREE for everyone involved. The players and college coaches get this experience entirely for free so it was nice to see such a strong showing from coaches this past weekend. BCAA kicks off a number of quality unsigned senior events that are available this spring in South Florida. Below are some prospects who were impressive over the course of the day on Saturday.

Top Performers:

Bryan Williams(6'1/Combo Guard) from Wellington High School was impressive showing off his ability to get to the rim at will. Williams was able to create space and finish around the basket as well as make plays for others. Williams is a high IQ player and it makes sense that his team was competing for a state title this past season.

Kevin Chong (6’4/Scoring Guard) from Coconut Creek showed off his offensive versatility consistently throughout the day.  Kevin was able to create space for himself with his length and tight handle in the half-court, he had a few crossover combinations he turned into smooth one dribble pull ups that were impressive.  Chong also has the ability to play off the ball, he knocked down a number of corner 3’s throughout the day and made intelligent back door cuts.

Dwayne Adams (5’9/Point Guard) the electric point guard from Boyd Anderson was very impressive throughout the day Saturday.  Adams controlled the pace of the game with his quickness and high motor. Defensively he really harassed the other team’s ball handler the length of the court. Whatever he lacks in size he makes up for with hustle and attitude (multiple effort guy) every time down the court.  Early on he was using the pick and roll well, effectively getting his teammates the ball in open spots for easy shots. After he got going, he came down on two different times in transition and shook his man to create pull up threes - swished both. During the end of the last game of his team’s set, Dwayne continued to push the pace while the rest of the players on the court were burnt out.  Impressive showing.

Brandon Swaby (6’2/Swingman) the Northeast High product showed off his high motor on both ends of the floor on Saturday.  On the defensive end he used his length and pressure to cause a number of deflections that led to steals, he was relentless getting out in transition and attacking the rim for strong finishes (drew fouls, And 1’s).  In the half court he found his rhythm early, using a shot-fake - 1 dribble pull up effectively. He got hot late in the game and hit two catch and shoot 3’s in rhythm, the second one he had a defender all over him. Athletic slasher that made a big impact on the defensive side of the floor.

Josh Jerome (6’6/Combo Forward) from Pines Charter was one of the first guys you noticed when you walk in the gym.  A combination of powerful and smooth, Josh lit it up from 3 early and remained consistent throughout the day. A threat out of the pick and pop, he has a great shot fake that he used to get to the paint where he finished through contact while maintaining a soft touch.  On the wing he was able to get by smaller defenders with his size and footwork, and used his handle and speed to blow by bigger defenders. A versatile offensive threat on the wing, Josh has a high ceiling as far as expanding his game at the next level.

Matthew Perez (6’2/Combo Guard) the long athletic guard from Florida Christian used a quick first step to consistently get in the paint over the course of the day.  From there he dropped a couple of nice passes to his bigs and made a few impressive finishes at the rim. Out of the pick and roll Matthew was effective from the mid-range where he showed impressive elevation to get his shot off.  On the defensive end he plays the passing lanes well and rebounds out of his area looking to push tempo.
