HoopMIA "The Warmup" presented by the Junior Orange Bowl basketball committee was back for the third straight year. Per usual Miami Springs Recreation center was filled with talented and under the radar prospects that liter our South Florida Community. This year our staff was fortunate enough to have Corey Evans a national recruiting  analyst  for Rivals sports in attendance to evaluate prospects giving this year's "The Warmup" a national level feel. This year our pools are filled with teams exclusively out of South Florida. While the last two seasons an out of town team has walked away with the title. Between the Junior Orange Bowl basketball committee and our staff here at HoopMIA, the excitement that exists to provide a quality experience for student athletes and coaches before they embark on a long season is crucial for us. Below are a list of players that caught our eye today.

Top Performers:

John Square(6'5/W/2020) Florida Christian

Square the talented sophomore continues to show progression on the perimeter while not ignoring his duties as a primary rebounder. Square's athleticism is starting to flourish and once his fluidity comes along Square will be a sought after prospect in his class. By the way he had the play of the day finishing a thunderous slam against a tough, and gritty Norland team.

Toru Dean(6'0/PG/2019) South Miami

Dean is a prospect you love to evaluate. Every time our staff has a chance to see him he seems more confident and comfortable. Saturday Dean was a blur with the ball getting to any spot on the court with ease while making his team better in the process. If Dean can improve as a consistent three-point shooter he will burst on to the regional and national recruiting scene.

Matheis Silvera(6'10/F/2019) Calusa Prep

Silvera may have been the best prospect in the gym on Saturday. Silvera is every inch of 6'10 and may actually be taller. While he has the size to be a division one prospect it is his elite skill set and lateral quickness defensively that separates him from ordinary big men. Silvera has the ability to play inside and out which he does efficiently and often. Division one coaches everywhere, the secret is out.

Miguel Diaz(6'4/W/2018) Miami Christian

Diaz is perhaps the most underrated player in South Florida. For the past two seasons Diaz has proved time and time again to be a consistent three pointer shooter, terrific passer and big time glue guy. His attributes as player often times go beyond the stat sheets. His greatest skill is his knack for making winning plays. Whether it be a rebound, a defensive rotation or making the extra pass, Diaz is a guy every coach would love to have on his team.

David Didenko(6'7/F/2018) Boca Raton

Didenko did a little bit of everything today playing against a set of talented bigs especially Matheis Silvera. Didenko was making plays off the dribble for others while also finishing through contact. The piece of la resistance was how comfortable Didenko looked shooting the basketball. The combination of Didenko, Demeus and Long will be a formidable group to compete for a state championship.

Stock Boosters:

Markhi Strickland(6'6/G/2020) Florida Christian

Strickland the long raw guard continues to improve every time we see him play. Strickland has the tools to blossom into a tremendous prospect and seems to be well on his way playing alongside talented wing Mikey Square. Strickland will continue to improve as a ball handler and finisher but if he can improve shooting the basketball, Florida Christian will be a contender in there classification while those guys are there.

Lee Flenor(6'7/PF/2019) South Miami

Flenor the recent transfer from Southridge continues to thrive for his team. Flenor has added an improved skill set handling and finishing the basketball in transition while continuing to dominate the defensive glass. If Flenor can become a decent jump shooter and continue to attack defenders with his quickness and athleticism we could see him shoot up state rankings. Look for Dean and Flenor to make there mark with South Miami.

Reece Wilkerson(6'8/C/2019) Norland

Wilkerson the man in the middle for Norland continues to grow as a player. Wilkerson is consistently running the floor these days and banging bodies for rebounds. Wilkerson has shown improvements finishing around the basket but most of all he has improved his agility and is now able to be a much more effective help defender. If Wilkerson can get himself in elite shape he will have coaches even more coaches lining up for him, but he is on the right track.

Sebastian Guitan(6'9/PF/2018)Westwood

Guitan the stretch forward his improved drastically as a jump shooter and as an athlete. Guitan has added a noticeable amount of size to his frame and his playing with consistent energy. Playing alongside Purdue commit Emmanuel Dowunna enables him to make plays from the perimeter. Guitan will be a critical element in Westwood Christians journey to another trip to Lakeland, Florida.
