The first ever HoopMIA Cream of the Crop Camp took place at the House of Hoops 365 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this past Saturday. Our staff was extremely excited about the opportunity to evaluate some of the local talent around Broward county. The camp featured a workout with NBA skills trainer Andrew Moran founder of the Miami Hoop School and Triple Threat FIT trainer Michael Guilbaud an innovative sport specific trainer. Following the workouts each player attended a twenty minute recruiting discussion with Colin Campbell Co-Founder of HoopMIA.

Our inaugural camp featured one of Broward county's best players, while even some of Miami's talent made there way up to play. Here are the guys that stood out. (All players were evaluated placed on our list that goes out to all college coaches subscribed to our scouting service)

Top Performers:

Jeremiah Saunders(6'0/CG/2018) Northeast HS

Saunders who spent his spring and summer playing with the travel team Atlanta Xpress recently transferred from University School to Northeast HS. Saunders was ultra impressive displaying a college ready body and a polished skill set. Saunders also demonstrated that he is an next level athlete consistently finishing through contact and above the rim.

Joey Martinez(6'6/W/2019) Palmetto HS

Martinez made his way up from Miami-Dade county to attend camp. Martinez bounced around quite a bit during his spring and summer regarding travel team. While Martinez did not have the greatest summer he was competing and playing with a ton of energy over the course of camp. Martinez is a classic tweener but his ability to shoot the ball and use his length defensively make him an intriguing prospect especially on a talented Palmetto HS team this season.

Mike Starks(5'11/PG/2018) Palmetto HS

Starks the point guard and catalyst for Palmetto HS was also in attendance for camp. Starks uses his toughness, anticipation and quick hands to be a playmaker defensively. Starks thrives on creating turnovers and disrupting another offensive players rhythm.

Nygel Brooks(6'9/PF/2018) Columbus

Brooks the skilled big man was impressive during the course of the camp. Brooks showed that while he continues to improve his skill set, his energy and motor continue to improve along with it. Look for Brooks to have big year for Columbus and coach Henry Lorenzo.

Malik Anderson(6'6/F/2018) School House Prep

Anderson a new face in South Florida via New York City and Christ the King High School was overwhelmingly strong and hungry during Saturday's action. Anderson made it  a point to keep his motor running and demonstrated above the rim athleticism to go along with his elite frame. Look for Anderson to make a huge impact for School House Prep this season and a must see prospect for low major, division 2, NAIA and JUCO programs.

Wesley Cadet(6'4/W/2021) Northeast HS

Cadet, who is widely considered one of the best 9th graders in the country was getting after it Saturday competing against a group comprised of mostly juniors and seniors. While at moments he was showing why he has attracted a ton of attention up to this point there were other moments where the physicality and undeveloped skill seeped through. Cadet is skilled but it is his athleticism and length that are most glaring when evaluating the young 2021 prospect.

Stock Booster:

Clevland Bedgod(6'1/CG/2018) Southridge HS

Bedgod was effective all day long demonstrating the ability to knock down perimeter jump shots off the catch and off the dribble. Bedgod was also never out of control making sound decisions while sustaining a productive effort level throughout the camp. Look for Bedgod to be key for Southridge HS this season under first year head coach Marcus Barnes.

Xavier Mendez(6'6/W/2018) Northeast HS

Mendez was terrific all afternoon displaying his ability to play multiple positions offensively and defensively. Mendez thrived shooting the basketball but also was effective as a ball handler initiating plays for his teammates and a guy who made an effort to make all the winning plays such as diving on loose balls, talking on defense even giving up a good shot for a great shot. Mendez will be key for a very talented Northeast HS team looking to make their imprint on the state of Florida this season.

Sleepers:

Troy Boynton(6'2/G/2021) Westminster Academy

Boynton a 2021 prospect was someone our staff at HoopMIA were not entirely sure what to expect from. While he sports a long, slender frame with long skinny arms,  do not be fooled by Boynton's exterior, he can ball. Boynton demonstrated a high level shooting stroke from three point range and a confident feel slashing and finishing through traffic. The most impressive attribute he displayed was his ability to pick and chose his spots as a scorer and play maker.  Boynton will have a limited role with the super talented Wesminster Academy team but will be a key reserve for them providing shooting off the bench.

Carl Bigord(6'5/W/2020) School House Prep

Bigord a long athletic wing demonstrated natural ability and athleticism. Bigord is excellent in transition because he runs hard and finishes above the rim consistently. Bigord must continue to develop his skill set on the perimeter but already shows flashes of a mechanically sound jump shot and fluid deliberate motions. Bigord will be an impact player for the new look School House Prep team this season.
