The Hoop Exchange had their Southern Shootout this weekend at Chaminade Madonna in Hollywood, Florida. Throughout the course of two days their were over 20 division one prospects in the gym with a few smart college coaches and scouts closely watching. The Hoop Exchange has a reputation for putting together high quality events, their trip to South Florida was no different.

Dylan Frye(6’1/PG/2016)Mater Academy (Bowling Green)

Dylan Frye the point guard who recently transferred back to Mater Academy after winning a state championship last year at Miami Christian was stellar defeating a talented Dillard team on Friday night. Frye has received a lot of attention of late as Mater Academy has taken down to public school power houses this year in Blanche Ely and Dillard.

Jordan Wright(6’5/SG/2017)Dillard

Wright the 2017 2-3 man is very talented. Wright is big, strong and athletic with ball skills that allow him be a threat from the perimeter. Wright wasn’t the best version of himself on Friday but he was clearly a their best player.

Kyle Marrion(5’11/PG/2017)Providence

Marrion the quick point guard dismantled the enormous front line of Gulliver Prep. Marrion was impossible to stay in front of, making plays for teammates at will as well as setting himself up for easy scoring opportunities.Providence defeated Gulliver 78-58.

Victor Uyaelumno(7’0/C/2017)Gulliver Prep

Uyaelumno did not have his best showing in 78-58 loss to Providence school but Uyaelumno is a big time prospect. Uyaelumno is not quite adept at creating his own shot with his back to the basket consistently but the talent is definitely there.

Mike Akuchie(6’6/SF/2017)St. Thomas Aquinas

Akuchie the long athletic wing led St. Thomas Aquinas to a convincing win over Cardinal Gibbons. Akuchie was versatile making multiple three point jump shots will showing off a solid understanding of how to play close outs. Akuchie is the name to keep an eye on here in South Florida.

Tyler Polley(6’8/SF/2017)Sagemont

Polley the dominant forward was stellar in the blowout victory over Chaminade Madonna. Polley is quick and long enough to guard multiple positions and good enough with the ball to play around the basket and out on the perimeter. Polley is as good as advertised.

Thomas Vermisi(6’8/W/2017)Sagemont

Vermisi was brilliant in the victory over Chaminade Madonna. Vermisi was making shots from all over the court and has  the ability to put the ball on the ground and attack the basket at 6’8. Vermisi was the best player in a game where there were atleast 5 other definite division one players on the court.

Luis Hurtado(6’6/PG/2017)Sagemont

Hurtado the 6’5 point guard was impressive, staying calm cool and collected in the big win over Chaminade Madonna. Hurtado isn’t flashy but consistently makes the right play while making it look effortless. Hurtado is the glue that keeps all of the talented players on Sagemont playing well together.

Darrius Allen(6’5/SF/2016)Chaminade Madonna

Allen was spectacular in his first game Friday night against Providence but the Lions of Chaminade Madonna were simply over matched Saturday night versus Sagemont. Allen is a physical specimen with a sound looking jump shot. Allen has big upside, and if he can understand how to impose his athleticism on every possession of the game he would be scary.

Anfernee Munnings(5’11/PG/2016)

Munnings the senior point guard scored 26 points and led the Pines Charter Jaguars to a stellar victory over Fort Lauderdale High School in double overtime 81-76. Munnings is so tough in the open court and is a big time shot maker for his team. Munnings is one of the more under appreciated players in the state of Florida.

Jeffery Prophete(6’3/SG/2017)Fort Lauderdale

Prophete the talented shooting guard is a very tough cover at the high school level. Prophete is very capable of catching the ball in the mid post and scoring in a variety of ways. Prophete is not a traditional guard so to speak but is very effective. Although they couldn’t pull out a win over Pines Charter Prophete showed he understands how to get a bucket. Period.
