The subject of this week’s player spotlight is one of the more under prospects in South Florida. Calvary Christian wing Dylan Canoville is a talented prospect that plays with a relentless motor. He talked about his goals heading into his senior season.

“My goals for my senior season are personally I want to pick up offers and show people that they have been sleeping on me for too long,” said Canoville. “As for my team goals, I want all of us to become one unit, win states and qualify for Geico Nationals.”

The 6-foot-5 senior has lofty goals for his final season, but he is part of a Calvary Christian roster that is an embarrassment of riches. The Eagles along with Canoville will feature 2022 nationally ranked Gregg Glenn, 2022 Taylor Hendricks and Tyler Hendricks, 2023 Marvel Allen, and 2023 Carl Cherenfant. Allen, Glenn, Taylor Hendricks, and Cherenfant are all national prospects in their respective classes. Canoville talked about being a vital part of this loaded roster and what he loves most about the sport.

“What I love the most about basketball is the work you put in to improve and being able to see that progression. I also love the people you are able to meet through the game. I feel great to play with all these boys this year. I have known all of them for years now. I can not wait until we go out there and shock the world.”

Canoville has been faced with the challenge of trying to improve despite the current pandemic which has obliterated the usual basketball calendar.. The class of 2021 has been affected the most by the loss of basketball live periods and team camps. He talked about his strengths as a player and how he has handled the current climate.

“I am good at slashing to the basket. I am very athletic and can put on a show. I have been working on my handles and shot the whole quarantine. I still try to be safe because I live with my grandmother, but I have been working every day to get better.”

The Eagles’ standout is garnering the attention of several colleges. He is a player that elevates the play of others around him with his passion and style of play. He is an ultra competitor that impacts the game with his slashing, rebounding, and defense. Canoville’s athleticism and strength are evident each time you see him play and he is a terror for opposing teams in transition. He talked about his current recruiting situation and what he is looking for in a college destination.

“Towson is the school that is talking to me the most. Schools like College of Charleston and SIUE are speaking to me a lot as well. I am looking for a college that is going to complement my game and a coach who will push me so I can make my dreams of making the NBA a reality.”

Canoville is truly one of the hidden gems in South Florida and it will be exciting to watch him and the Calvary Christian team which will play a big time schedule featuring games on the national stage. He is a dynamic prospect whose game directly translates to winning. He will be a pleasure to watch in his final high school season and to see how his career at the next level will play out. When asked about Canoville, Coach Cilk McSweeny  said, " Dylan is one of the most underrated players in our state.  His pure athleticism and the ability to guard positions 1-4 makes him a threat.  He is our x-factor and the sky is the limit!
