The subject of this week’s HoopMIA player spotlight is Park Vista’s 6-foot-3 lead guard Erik Pratt. He has helped launch Park Vista into a legit state title contender in 7a despite the fact the school has not had a winning season since 2014-2015. The senior has the Cobras ranked as one of the Top 10 teams in 7a in the state. He talked about what has contributed to his big senior campaign and his love for the game.

“The keys to my success so far has been just staying level headed and coming into every game with the same mindset and that is to kill,” said Pratt. “Staying in the gym and always putting up shots has helped as well. I love the joy that the game of basketball brings to me while I am playing. I am always happy while playing.”

Pratt has helped lead Park Vista to a 17 and 6 record. They are ranked the top team in their district heading into the district tournament this week. He is a dynamic guard that plays the point guard and shooting guard position for the Cobras. The lefty is a smooth player with a great jumpshot. He has a quick release and is capable of lighting up the scoreboard in a hurry. He discussed what he feels the strengths of his game are, his love for the game, and what he is looking to improve upon.

“My strengths overall are my shooting ability, defense, basketball IQ, ball handling and the versatility of being able to play both the 1 and 2 guard positions. I am looking to work on getting to the basketball more and getting open off the ball to get shots and be able to create more plays.”

The senior is averaging 19.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. He is a talented prospect that has a bright future as a college basketball player. He is just starting to get recruiting attention and if he and his team can make a deep playoff run that attention is sure to skyrocket. He recapped his current recruitment status and what he will be looking for in his future college destination.

“As of right now I have 3 offers. The offers are from Western Oklahoma State, ASA College, and Iowa Central. I am looking for a school that is for a home away from home, somewhere where I can feel comfortable and happy. I want people around me with the same motivation. I also want a family bond and I want the team to be a brotherhood. I want a coach that will push me to my best and I do not want anything sugar coated to me.”

Park Vista is in a loaded region that features programs like Wellington, Forest Hill, Deerfield Beach, Santalacues, and Dwyer. They will face a daunting region, but they have the talent and confidence to make a run to the state playoffs. In addition to Pratt, The Cobras have talented seniors Jealen Francois, Hantz Louis Jeune, and John Saenz to help lead the way.  Pratt talked about his personal and team goals headed into the stretch run.

“My personal goals are to be named big school player of the year. For the playoffs, I would like to win and lead the team. Our team goal is to focus one game at a time for an overall goal of hopefully going to states.”

Pratt is a great scoring guard that also serves as Park Vista’s distributor and one of their best defenders. Pratt uses his length to bother the opponent’s top scorers. On the offensive end, he is great at hunting for shots and does not need much space to knock down jumpers. He plays the game with great energy and enthusiasm. It is evident that he is ascending as a player and prospect and it will be fun to see what heights he can reach.
