The subject of this week’s HoopMIA player spotlight is 2020 Florida Atlantic University signee Giancarlo Rosado. The 6-foot-8 forward is a standout for Palm Beach Lakes High School. He averaged 19.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game during his junior season and is set to have an even more productive senior campaign. He discussed what he feels makes him the Division 1 player that he is.

“I feel like the strength of my game is how versatile I can be,” said Rosado. “I have the ability to play on the perimeter and on the block.”

Despite his impressive junior season, Rosado was still a relatively unknown prospect headed into his travel basketball season. That all changed due to his play for E1T1 on the Nike EYBL Circuit. He drew a ton of praise and attention by averaging 12.4 points and 6.3 rebounds on 51 percent shooting in the Nike circuit. He talked about his experience of playing on a high level circuit.

“I played with E1T1 for travel basketball and it was a great experience. Playing on the EYBL was great. I was able to pick up 13 division 1 offers during that time.”

Florida Atlantic was able to secure Rosado’s commitment after his aforementioned breakout summer. He signed with FAU early despite holding offers from Arkansas State, FGCU, Florida International, George Mason, Georgia Southern, Hofstra, Mercer, Toledo, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, and Wofford. It was a big time get for Head Coach Dusty May and his staff. We are interested to see how Rosado will showcase his talents at the next level. He discussed what influenced his decision to commit to the Owls.

“They have a great coaching staff at FAU. The system is a fit for my game and style of play. It felt like a family enviroment for me at Florida Atlantic ever since they started recruiting me.”

Rosado plays with a great skill level for a high school big man. He has great footwork inside and is a patient scorer on the block. What makes him unique as a prospect is his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting and face up driving ability. It is rare to find a big man with his ability at this level and it is obvious why his stock skyrocketed when he played in front of coaches this summer. He talked about his goals for the season and what he loves the most about the sport.

“I love the ability to compete basketball brings and I love winning. My goal this season is to be a great leader and win a state title.”

The Palm Beach Lakes Rams fell into a monster of a district with the new Florida classifications. They are in a district with Forest Hill, Jupiter, Palm Beach Central, Royal Palm Beach, and Wellington. The district presents a challenge in every game with several of those teams being anual state contenders. The rest of the region is no slouch either featuring teams like Dwyer, Lake Worth, Coral Springs, Deerfield Beach, and Park Vista. It will be a monumental task for any team to win this region, but with Rosado at their core Palm Beach Lakes figures to have a legit chance. Rosado has high hopes for his squads chances.

“I feel like we have a really good team this season. We have the potential to be state champions this season. That is the goal.”

Rosado is a player that has worked and willed himself into the player he is today and it will be a pleasure to see how his senior season and college career unfolds. He is a true success story and proof of what desire and effort can lead to for a young talented basketball player.
