This week’s HoopMIA player spotlight is on skilled point guard Dominick Denny. He is the point guard and engine of a rising North Broward Prep program and is entering his senior season. Denny has been All-County honorable mention for two consecutive seasons and is set to prove this year that he is one of the elite point guards in South Florida. He talked about his goals for this upcoming season.

“My goals are to win districts, win regionals and win states,” said Denny. “I do not think that it is impossible, but I know it will be hard. I also want to show people that I am one of if not the top guards in my county and class.”

The 5 foot 10 guard is a quick and a terrific ball handler. He seems to be in total control on the court and is great at running his team. Denny has played for South Florida Elite throughout his grassroots career and this year played with Team Florida as well. He discussed his travel basketball junior campaign and his strengths as a prospect.

“I would say my strengths are my speed and stamina, as well as my basketball IQ. My travel basketball season was very good. I played with South Florida Elite and I also got the chance to play for Team Florida on the adidas gold circuit where I picked up my first offer.”

Denny picked up that offer from Florida Southern. Florida Southern is one of the top Division 2 programs in the country. He is set to garner more attention from college programs in what should be a phenomenal senior campaign. Denny, who averaged 15.5 points and 5.2 assists per game last season, talked about his current recruiting status.

“My recruiting is progressing. I currently have one offer from Florida Southern. What I look for in a school is the opportunity to showcase my talents on and off the court and represent the school, as well as getting a good education.”

The North Broward Prep Eagles are set for a breakout season. In addition to Denny, they have talented prospects in 6’8 2022 post player Justin Abson, 6’6 2021 wing MK Ashmore, and 2022 6’2 guard Maximus Fuentes. They are the favorite in District 13 in 4A, which features Pinecrest, Coral Springs Charter, and Cardinal Gibbons as other contenders. If they capture the district they are settle to battle with power programs like University School, Stranahan, Gulliver in order to win the regional. Denny has high hopes for his team this upcoming season.

“I am extremely excited for this season at North Broward. We have a very talented team and we are looking forward to districts, regionals and states. We are definitely excited for what we can achieve.”

The Eagles have great expectations for the season and seem to have the talent to put it all together. Denny is truly a hidden gem in South Florida and it will be interesting to follow his senior season and how far he can lead his squad.
