This week’s player spotlight focuses on one of Broward’s finest players Brent Davis. The 6 foot 2 guard led Miramar to a district championship last season and was selected First Team All-County in Broward by the Sun Sentinel and the Miami Herald. The rising senior talked about what he brings to the table as a prospect.

“My strengths are getting to the basket and finishing through traffic,” said Davis. “I shoot the three ball well and I play defense 94ft.”

Davis emerged as Miramar’s go to player last season. He averaged 14 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game.  He was counted upon heavily as Miramar leaned on him and a mostly young core following the graduations of Damian Miller, Immanuel Crump, and Jamir Moore. He exploded for 34 points against Pines Charter in a wild District Championship game that finished in a 95 to 91 Miramar victory. He has his sights set on a huge senior season.

“My personal goals are to get 7A player of the year, finish First Team All State, and to score one thousand career points. My team goal is to win a state championship.”

The Third team All-State guard played his travel basketball season with SOH Elite. He capped it off with a huge performance at On The Radar Hoops Elite 32 in the July live period. Davis went off for 40 points against Team Breakdown.

“This summer was great. The last live period with SOH elite we played together and we played to win. It helped as everybody was able to get recruited. I averaged 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the summer.”

Davis will be a major addition for whatever college program he chooses. He is already college ready physically and has a winning mentality. The 6 foot 2 and 175 pound guard is one of the top defenders in the state. He has garnered interest from The Citadel, Rider, FAMU and other programs. The Patriot’s standout will be making his decision soon.

“I am committing on September 9th. I already have the school that I am going to commit to, I just want to wait till that date to break the news.”

Miramar returns its three leading scorers from last season in Davis (Senior), Khamaury McMillan (Junior), and Deshawn Jean-Charles (Sophomore). That core has the Patriots as one of the favorites in 7a. They are the pre-season favorite in District 14 that features Dr.Krop, Everglades, Hialeah Gardens, Reagan, and West Broward.

“I feel like we are going to wake a lot of people up because we lost a lot of key players this summer but we have our core and the guys on the bench hungry to win games. We have great team chemistry I am very excited to turn heads this year.”

Davis will have his recruiting wrapped up in a couple of weeks and his focus will be on improving individually and on having a monster senior season. He will be one of the favorites to win player of the year in Broward and has Miramar set for another run to Lakeland.
