Florida National Elite Camp

Florida National hosted an Elite Camp Sunday at Bucky Dent gymnasium and had over 60 attendees. Coach James Thatcher kicked off the camp with a group talk about college basketball and what it takes to become a player at the next level. The camp was attended by several college coaches.

Top Performers

2019

Jovan Debrito (Miami Palmetto | 6’1/SG)

Jovan displayed his usual shooting prowess throughout the camp. Debrito’s ball handling and ability to shoot off the dribble has continued to progress and as his body is still maturing he is a prospect that is still ascending. He is one of the area’s top unsigned players and will be a great find for a program that is still searching for an efficient shooter.

2020

Melvin Diaz (Champagnat| 6’4/F)

The 6 foot 4 junior was one of the best athletes at the camp. Diaz looked more comfortable on the perimeter and was able to convert on several jump shots throughout the camp. He has a phenomenal motor and attacks the glass on every possession. The Lions’ wing seems to have improved his decision making and will be a breakout candidate throughout the spring and summer.

Ga’khari Lacount (Miami Coral Park| 6'1/PG)

The 6 foot 1 junior was one of the top players at the event. He was scoring from all 3 levels and was finding teammates for easy baskets in transition throughout the event. Lacount is a crafty scorer whose shot making ability continues to show improvement. Fresh off a breakout season in which he became one of the county’s top scorers, Lacount is a player college coaches should have on their radar headed into the live periods.

Julio Rodriguez(Champagnat| 6’0/PG))

Rodriguez has great speed and is an intense competitor. He is one of South Florida’s best on ball defenders and showed his ability to drive to the basket throughout the camp. Rodriguez’s college level will depend on his ability to mature  as a point guard. If he is able to develop into more of a pure point guard, his stock will rise because he is a great playmaker and leaves it all on the court everytime he plays.
