Derrick De La Grana named HoopMIA Director of Skills

 HoopMIA has added a new member to our staff, Head coach of Immaculata-La Salle High School, Derrick De La Grana.  De La Grana joins the staff  in the role of Director of Skills   De La Grana brings an infinite wealth of basketball experience to HoopMIA through his experiences as a player and coach. Derrick is the son of  Octavio De La Grana Director of Minor League Operations/Player Development Coach  for the Miami Heat. De La Grana is a great addition to our staff because he  has been a successful within the sport of basketball his entire life and understands what it takes to get better at each level. 

As a high school player, De La Grana was one of the best point guards in South Florida receiving all state recognition after his senior season. After a successful high school career De La Grana proceeded to attend  Reinhardt University(GA) NAIA to play out his basketball career. De La Grana also had a brief stint playing professional basketball in Chile.

After a professional playing career, De La Grana got involved with basketball at the high school and youth level. For the past several years De La Grana has been an intrical part of the coaching staff at Erik Spoelstra Basketball Academy. De La Grana played a large part in the organization of AAU teams, skill clinic's, and summer camp's during his time with the organization.

After De La Grana was the Head Coach and Athletic Director at Calusa Prep for five seasons.De La Grana understands the evolution that high school basketball has made in Florida. While pushing young basketball players to be the best they can be De La Grana has seen basketball at it's highest level and will assist all prospects and participants in HoopMIA events to be the best every time they hit the court. "I am beyond excited to work with HoopMIA, they have built a unique brand and appeal to the whole basketball community here in South Florida. I can't wait to start helping with training,  camps,  and clinics.
